A Poem to My Children

When you have more friends than you can count on two hands,
Remember, Daddy loves you.
When you feel that you have more enemies than fans,
Remember, Daddy loves you.

When you feel so much joy that you just want to shout,
Remember, Daddy loves you.
When you’re sad and blue and feel down and out,
Remember, Daddy loves you.

When the grades have come in and you’re making all As,
Remember, Daddy loves you.
When the answers you miss put the “D” in your days,
Remember, Daddy loves you.

When I send you to bed because you need rest,
Remember, Daddy loves you.
I try to make choices which bring you the best.
Remember, Daddy loves you.

When life offers pleasures which you know are wrong,
Remember, Daddy loves you.
I’ve trained you with truth, and I pray you stay strong.
Remember, Daddy loves you.

As you lie in bed and are lost in your dream,
Remember, Daddy loves you.
I tuck you in, kiss you and my eyes sometimes stream.
Remember, Daddy loves you.

As I watch you perform from the sidelines or stands,
Remember, Daddy loves you.
I cheer for you louder than coaches or bands.
Remember, Daddy loves you.

My confidence in you is firm and complete.
Remember, Daddy loves you.
I believe you’re a winner from your head to your feet.
Remember, Daddy loves you.

If only you could see in my heart, you would know.
Remember, Daddy loves you.
The place I have for you there only will grow.
Remember, Daddy loves you.

When you launch into life without looking behind,
Remember, Daddy loves you.
I pray that success in great measure you find.
Remember, Daddy loves you.

Above all the wealth, may this echo ring true.
Remember, Daddy loves you.
There’s a Father in heaven above who loves you.
Remember, Daddy loves you.
