An Overdue Post and a Capstone Presentation

Well, it’s been some time since I posted anything here. Like, a loooong time. But I’m back! A Week of Wonder (And Marching)

A Week of Wonder (And Marching)

I must say, I had never heard of American Legion Boys State before my junior year of high school, and even when I was selected as a delegate, I didn’t really have any idea of what I was in for. In the two or three weeks leading up to the event, I heard mention of marching, and learning about government, and becoming governor, but mostly about marching. In other words, I had absolutely no idea … Read entire article »

Lord of the Rings: CGI vs. Special Effects

The following is a required paper that I wrote for a college class on the subject of entertainment. I chose to write on the topic of movies, and the sub-topic of the world of special effects. David Thompson ENGL 110 Dr. Summerlin Did The Lord of the Rings Turn Into “Lord of the Screen” Because of CGI or Real Effects? The Lord of the Rings was a movie full of potential. So I had been searching for a new guitar for quite some time, although none ever quite seemed to fit. That was until right before my birthday, when I spotted the guitar of my dreams in a local music store, screaming, “Play me, David! Hold me close!” It not only stayed in tune and sounded nice and rich, but it looked almost too beautiful for words, sitting there shining in the imagined moonlight streaming from my … Read entire article »

A Pastor’s Dilemma

With the threat of a surprise raid hanging heavy over their heads, Kruschev’s group kept noise down to a minimum. Their singing was beautiful, albeit barely distinguishable, and the presence of the Holy Spirit was noticeable in the small, windowless basement where they sat or stood in various positions of worship. After several such songs, Kruschev, or “Pastor Benjamin” as he was known to the members of his secret congregation, stood silently, letting the strengthening waves of the Spirit pour over him. Finally, he began his message. It was a simple sermon, if it could be called that. In reality, it was a talk; a private talk with each of the people in that room. He spoke about the need for bold witnesses for the Lord, … Read entire article »

Down Time in Bishkek

Down Time in Bishkek

Happy Saturday everyone! Not that today is a holiday or anything, but I had a good day today, and I can’t wait to start sharing about it. And as always, I’ll start at the beginning. Because Dad is an ISP man, he got to meet some computer geeks this morning, and talk with them about servers, and voice-over IP, and a bunch of other stuff. I went with him, and learned some more about computer language. … Read entire article »
