Week 6: Reaching Children

Week 6: Reaching Children

I have always envisioned the job of a children’s pastor. He drives to work, spends a few hours on his sermon, talks with a few parents, and then goes back home. Actually, probably the biggest lesson I learned while with Pastor Chris Knipp was that I couldn’t have been more wrong. The main thing we did today was to work on setting up the program for Resurrection Sunday, since it is just around the corner, but … Read entire article »

Week 5: Relieving Body Pains

Week 5: Relieving Body Pains

Today I met with Lindsay Hathcock, a local chiropractor. He is a very nice person, and he cares a lot about others. I arrived at his office at about 10 a.m., and after checking some stuff on his computer, he showed me around the workplace. In one of the rooms sat a hydrotherapy bed, which is basically a flat bed with water jets inside. They sometimes use it to help with arthritis problems in the … Read entire article »

Week 4: Splicing Fiber Optics

Week 4: Splicing Fiber Optics

I’m sure that everyone has a place that they make jokes about. For me, it’s always been Alabama. However, after going to Alabama, I think that will change. It is actually a very nice place, and my experience with Dwayne Pugh and fiber optic cables was equally as good. Dad, Mom, and I left at 8:30, and headed for Alabama. First we stopped by the famous Unclaimed Baggage store and looked around, and after buying some … Read entire article »

Week 3: Learning Life Lessons

Week 3: Learning Life Lessons

Today I was with Michael Gravitt, one of my favorite grownups. He is an incredible man of God, a missionary to Romania, and he’s also been given the gift of prophecy. Anyway, we started by heading downtown to eat breakfast at Gardners Market, but we ended up getting kind of lost and walking around some. During that time, Michael taught me a little bit about people. I was joking about people thinking I was from the … Read entire article »

Week 2: Building a Barn

Week 2: Building a Barn

Have you ever built a barn before? It’s pretty hard, but fun. That’s what I did with Aleksey Melnikov today. At about ten, I went to the job site, said hi to Aleksey, and met the workers building the structure. I mainly watched and learned, and kind of acted as a “gofer”. Around 11:30, we finished the nailing and screwing the basic support posts and braces and started on the trusses. For those of you who don’t … Read entire article »

Week 1: Painting Styrofoam

Week 1: Painting Styrofoam

On Friday the 12th, I went with Joe to the new Baptist Church being constructed and saw what  he had been working on. We checked on a couple of things, and then headed over to his “off-site” workplace, where he does most of his work. I was introduced to the other workers, then Joe and I gave some coconuts  going to a church down in Savannah, GA a coat of paint. By then we were feeling … Read entire article »
