John Thompson, Jr. has been married to Naomi for 51 years.  Retired, he loves gardening and spending time with his family of four children,  eight grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

Education:  2 years at Lee College/Associate of Arts Degree

  • Two years drove my dump truck in Savannah, GA hauling asphalt, sand, etc.

  • Seventeen years in bookkeeping at M & J Supermarkets in Chattanooga, TN
  • Twenty years custodial work at Rossville, GA schools

Community Involvement:  Have attended Republican meetings–local, district and
State.

Your local church:  City Church of Chattanooga

Place of service in church:  Over the years I have served on the church council, served 12 years as church clerk, 8 years in the bus ministry, worked with the Singles ministry, and am presently working with the 3, 4, and 5 year olds in Sunday School.  Our family used to sing as a group, and we also produced puppet programs we performed in Vacation Bible Schools.   Led a prayer  meeting for 20 years.  Presently we are participating in an “early church” type home prayer meeting where we meet,  serve a meal, fellowship, share the Word, and pray together.

Two to three unique facts about yourself:  Fasted 40 days twice, only drinking water.  Twenty-one days 3 times, 16 days one time, 5 days without water once and 1, 2, 3 days several times (without water).  Fasting is beneficial for you spiritually and physically.

Favorite verse or book of the Bible and reason:  Psalm 16:11.  God satifies the desire for joy and pleasure.

Define (in your own words) what it means to be a godly man in your generation:  2 Corinthians 10:4, 5  gives us the weapons to pull down strongholds.  The latter part of
Ezekiel 22 gives us courage to stand in the gap for our nation and the world in this hour.

Other than the presumed answer, “Follow Jesus,” what are one to three key lessons in life that you would encourage young people everywhere to consider?

  • Read the Word, fast, pray and praise for spiritual health.
  • Drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water daily for physical health.

What are one or two dead end roads that you have found in your journey?  Invention and patent of shoe pad for removing shoe marks from  floors.  It works well
but did not sell as well as I had expected.
